Why do engineers quit in tech startup?



There are many reasons for engineers to quit job in a tech startup. Before going to that point, I would like to share my experience in the tech startup both as an employee and an employer.

It was a beautiful experience of being a software engineer in the software company. I have learned a lot in that period of time and never felt like quitting my job even though its a very short period.

Let's flip to the other side of my life as a tech employer, It is very difficult to explain my journey in an article because its only emotions and feelings which can’t be written down in an article. Faced a lot of challenges and also got lots of opportunities to explore my field of interest and passion. But due to lack of corporate experience, I was feeling nervous. And that was the strongest point to keep me for a longer period in the organization. I always used to take operative decisions for our team because I didn’t know the managerial skills and politics which is played in corporate.

They feel the genuine relationship between me and them, and they always feel safe with my lead. I know engineers, though all human beings have an emotional side and always seek care so its a natural for me too. If you see the corporate culture they are only concerned about their job, not emotions and feelings.

I feel management should learn how to care for them(engineers) like a family because they are emotional people who never like the ego of management and politics in work environment.

There are some points I have noticed for which engineers are very likely to quit their jobs.

Huge opportunity for good people.

If an engineer has the right skills in his field that means he has a  huge opportunity in terms of salary and personal development. It's  natural, you can’t stop it but if the company is adding some value to their life, they will never leave it. And it is very beneficial for the employees if the management is giving them the  opportunity to grow.


Passionate about something which the company does not have.

Here an engineer will try to switch to other company even in less salary if he is passionate about some other technology which his current company is not working on.

They need management to be like a family.

Software engineers want to be treated like a family member, if not so they feel frustrated and try to quit their job.
